As an interface/tactical experience it plays far more like a minion-summoning class in an ARPG than an RTS. T&T is a great first "RTS" to recommend to someone if you never want them to be able to move into other games of the genre, because it lacks one of the most fundamental modalities (and accessibility challenges) of the genre - multitasking across space without an exclusive anchor for interacting with the world. For something simpler, people would be better served trying an RTS like Auralux, Eufloria, or Mushroom Wars if they want to get started, because at least those maintain the same basic gameplay patterns. If you're trying to get people into RTS by throwing them into skirmish or multiplayer mode, that's a failure on the part of the teacher.īut sure - those are still complex games with a high ceiling. You've clearly never played the tutorial and campaign for something like Warcraft 3 - it's excellent, dead-simple, extremely watered down at the start, and very explicitly calls out the core mechanics of an RTS and of WC3 specifically as each new concept is introduced. but they cost the most per unit ( 60 = 1 mole/3 squirrels from a warren) Very situational, but it is worth mentioning. as such, you can get away with some really wonky shit. moles are unique in that they are the only unit that can be built anywhere. (bonus) moles- if I really wanna troll, I use moles, like, i just mass them in secret and rush the base when they aren't paying attention. Hot air balloon- can stop early pushes if you rush it, but it cuts into your bottom line of resources early game pretty hard so you gotta be carefulĪny tier 2- this really depends on who your playing against, but I run snakes or chameleons as both are really solid choices Pill box turret- nice to have a little defense/ stop ledge camping thing is, they actually aren't that great long term as a lot of units just out damage their healing. ![]() I only ever have 3 warrens of them up and I try to make sure they are well defended. Pigeons- Only healing force in the game, duh, of course I'm going to rock them. Lizards- my pick group, have about 12 of em at all times to ensure I can drive them behind and kill tier 2 units / certain tier 3s Squirrels- main fighting force, they have good range, so they make the bulk of the army, but they are susceptible to certain units, like snakes or uncle butter. this game can be a little intimidating at times, so helping them with some simple builds may help grow the fanbase a little more Tooth and Tail is a Real-Time-Strategy game featuring Single Player, Online Competitive Play, Split Screen, Replays, and more. that being said, I would love to compile some builds for new players. Add My Rating Critic Reviews User Reviews Details Description: Lead the revolution with an army of flamethrowing Boars, mustard gas-lobbing Skunks, and paratrooper-puking Owls. It has a small fanbase, but I personally think that it is the best "first" rts for people. So tooth and tail just got it standardized map update, which I hope may pull in some more people. I'll continue working on that one and will try to include special rules and mission objectives for co-op. Tooth and Tail - Lead the revolution with an army of flamethrowing Boars, mustard gas-lobbing Skunks, and paratrooper-puking Owls. Here's a mod pack containing an early version: Ī new, improved (and harder) version is basically finished and will be published, soon - you can find a few screenshots on my profile, e.g.: It requires more coordination and changing playstyles than against normal bots. I also made a mod with co-op mode, currently just 2-4 players against endless waves of enemies, to offer a bit more co-op content. ![]() Personally, I'd say the bots are only entertaining for a few games (AI is not very smart and can almost always be defeated by defensive play even on higher difficulties, the main difference you'll notice is that they start with an income advantage, and only become slightly smarter) - playing against other humans is waaaay more interesting. 2v2 with split-screen against online opponents. You can play multiplayer games locally with gamepad(s)* and split-sceen, and that works perfectly.īe aware there is no co-op (or any multiplayer) campaign, just multiplayer skirmishes - these can be played offline, against bots or other players (up to four players on one screen), or online, e.g.
